(January 22, 2020 – Charlotte, NC) At Compass Group USA, we have moved beyond business as usual and we are addressing new and heightened challenges. Our 2019 CSR Report illustrates what we have accomplished together. The year was an exceptionally dynamic and momentous period for our organization. Below are a few of the highlights featured in our report.

  • We crafted our new global platform with steps to encourage what is truly best for both people and planet.
  • We have kept wellbeing and wellness at the core of what we do.
  • We promoted game-changing initiatives that support the livelihood of our planet.
  • We expanded our food waste movement to communities around the world.
  • We strengthened our partnerships with innovators and disruptors to confirm our spot as the leading foodservice company in sustainability.
  • We created a culture that embraces corporate transparency as a crucial aspect of our success. A couple highlights include:
    • Doubling the purchases within our partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) to 8.7 million pounds, which equates to the weight of more than 130 Humpback Whales!
    • Removing 55 million straws company-wide, which equals the length of the United States coast-to- coast and back.
    • Reducing our emissions by nearly 8000 Metric Tons, which equates to planting more nearly 133,000 trees.

“All of these accomplishments reflect our beliefs and our commitment to a more sustainable future. We are proud to share these stories and we look forward to building on what we’ve done so that together we can improve both people and planet.” – Susie Weintraub, Envision Group CEO

Now that 2020 is here, we are moving towards the horizon of a new collaborative future where shifting attitudes and behavior have cemented sustainability as a cultural value.

As a proud sector of Compass Group, Eurest Services goes the extra mile to help the communities we serve, whether that means investing time, providing financial resources, or offering manpower. Eurest Services often does this through partnering with organizations to bring food, supplies, and aid to those in need during times of crisis.

Eurest Services encourages associates to volunteer and contribute to this community building mindset– even if it means they need to take time away from work to pursue projects or causes, they are passionate about.

Hurricane Dorian is currently the worst natural disaster on record for the Bahamas. The Category 5 storm brought winds of over 180 MPH and flooding that destroyed many community buildings and homes. Abaco was severely damaged, accounting for 49 of the 58 reported deaths.

Oliver Sach, Division Vice President of Eurest Services, knew he could assist this devastated community. “I called David [Eurest Services President] and asked him if I could leave the following day for the Bahamas. He said ‘Of course. No problem,’” he recalls.

Oliver joined his neighbor and the Green Turtle Cay Foundation, to provide hands-on relief work for the Bahamian people. The group of 17 spent five days focused on re-roofing key public buildings. “We completed 8 roofs, including the elementary school, food bank, general store, relief supplies storage building and other critical structures.” $1.2 million was raised in those five days alone which directly funded supplies and relief workers.

Compass Group is a company made up of people just like Oliver, people that take their responsibility as a global citizen seriously. “For me, helping the community means more than just my neighborhood. It is about helping people in need, anywhere. If I can make an impact, maybe others will too.”

With more than a decade of proven leadership in the sustainability space, we’re not slowing down. In 2018, Fast Company recognized Compass Group as the #1 Most Innovative Food Company because of our commitments to sustainable menus and food-waste reduction. In Wellbeing at the Core, learn how our culinary leaders have amplified their creativity to offer crave-worthy plant-forward concepts like Not Junk Food and Rooted, receiving industry recognition. Compass Group proudly purchased plant-based meat alternatives and, in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States, launched Food Forward training that inspired chefs to put flavor first in meat-free meals.

At Compass Group, the best thing about us is our people. They live and breathe sustainability each and every day. As a company, we’ve accomplished so much because of their dedication to doing the right thing.

Scott serves as Chief Executive Officer for TouchPoint Support Services, Morrison Community Living, and Bateman Community Living, providing a variety of services to hospitals and senior living facilities across the country. An unwavering champion of the foodservice, environmental, and healthcare industries, Scott has spent his entire 35 year career in these fields. Previously, he was CEO of Morrison Management Specialists, leading the company to double in size in just seven years. Before that, he was Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Foodbuy. He has raised substantial funds for multiple non-profit organizations and is the author of three books, including “Amanda’s Gift,” a book dedicated to serving the parents of seriously ill children.

1. Which non-profit mission do you feel most committed to supporting?
I serve on the board of a number on non-profit organizations, but the one most relevant to our business was the 10 years I spent on the Foundation Board at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, one of Morrison’s customers.

2. How did you become personally invested?
My youngest daughter had survived cancer three times by the age of seven. She’s had two liver transplants and over 150 surgeries in her lifetime. So naturally, I have a deep affinity towards children with serious illness and their families. I know what it’s like to live moment by moment, wondering what the next bit of news will bring, or what challenges your child will face when the morning comes.

3. What do you do to show your support?
I support all the Boards where I serve with my time, attention, prayers and finances. But I think the real support comes when you invest personally in the people whom these boards serve. It’s one thing to write a check, or attend a meeting; it’s altogether different to share in the lives and the experience of people in need. When you experience that need firsthand, your service to the organization ramps up to a completely different level.

4. Can you share a story when you realized your efforts were making a difference?
It is easy to see how these amazing organizations realize their purpose by serving those they were created to help. You can see that difference firsthand. And I’m incredibly honored to play some very small role in that. But I think the moment that hit me the most, actually, was when my oldest daughter posted on social media that I was traveling on a mission. I hadn’t even thought about the impact this work was having on my own family. It really gave me one of those “gut” moments when you realize something bigger than yourself is happening.

5. Why is it important to you to give your time to others?
We live day to day in the service industry. Every day I am inspired by what our people do to serve patients and residents at some of their most vulnerable moments. When you spend your days watching people with compassionate hearts touch the lives of people at the soul level, it’s hard not to turn around and do something yourself. When you talk to these amazing associates, all of them will tell you that giving to others enriches their lives even more. I think that’s part of the mystery of life. It is in giving that we receive.

In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the display of resiliency from our associates and the community, many of whom have experienced loss and disruption of their own, has been nothing short of extraordinary. Facing this, our associates continue to demonstrate the hospitality and care we’re known for. When we say that our associates are the heart of our company this is what we mean.

Many of our associates, clients, and operations in the Houston area and Florida stepped up to help those affected, whether by opening their doors to provide a hot meal or a safe place to sleep, and several sectors have launched individual efforts to assist our associates and clients. Across the Compass family, Canteen, Eurest, Chartwells Higher Education, Morrison Community Living, TouchPoint are creating relief funds to help their own as well as support the surrounding community. Compass Group established an overall relief fund matching every contribution up to $100,000.

And the help hasn’t stopped there. Take a look below at some of the extraordinary efforts from our own associates on the ground.

Canteen
Everybody’s helping, not just as Canteen, but as people helping their neighbors.

Chartwells Higher Education
The Dining services team at Lamar University in Beaumont Texas, despite 90% of the team being affected by the hurricane, stayed open and continued to serve students, staff, security, and over 1,200 evacuees. Many of the associates lost their homes and most of their belongings but continued to come to work each day, in order to make sure students received nutrition throughout the hurricane and beyond.

Levy
Teams at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Toyota Center, and BBVA Compass Stadium have produced thousands of hot meals for those displaced from their homes as well as the First Responders. Volunteers have been going door to door to help individuals begin to clean up their homes.

Morrison Community Living & TouchPoint
The Morrison Community Living and TouchPoint teams came from the surrounding areas to work with World Central Kitchen and Think Food Group to prepare and distribute meals to 500 people per day.

Restaurant Associates & Wolfgang Puck Catering
Restaurant Associates and Wolfgang Puck Catering partnered to deliver 10,000 meals to Beumont and Houston.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those associates who have been so generous with their time and resources to help efforts across the Compass community.

Charlotte, NC (June 6, 2017) — Foodbuy, LLC was recently recognized among international companies for corporate philanthropy and civic contributions in the Charlotte region at the Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA). The Charlotte International Cabinet honored Foodbuy in the large business category for its efforts to raise awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Foodbuy associates came together in August of 2014 after the sudden loss of Adam Buckley, 30 year-old son of Jayne Buckley and her husband Tony Buckley, to suicide. In the midst of her loss, Jayne demonstrated strength and resilience, and focused her efforts on the education and support resources available in the fight to help prevent suicide. Foodbuy associates banded together with Jayne and her family in solidarity to participate in the annual “Out of the Darkness Walk,” the signature fundraising campaign for AFSP, raising more than $30,000 in memory of Adam. The annual walk offers an opportunity to find comfort through shared stories of healing and hope. Foodbuy continues participation in the annual walk today.

Jayne Buckley, VP of Strategic Business Implementation for Foodbuy, accepted the award.

Kenneth Wilson has waited years for this moment. The Retired Army Veteran is now a home owner, thanks to Habitat for Humanity Charlotte, and a host of local volunteers. In an effort to give back to the community and help a Veteran in need, the Canteen Midsouth Division provided lunches during the construction phase, and together with sector volunteers, helped with a day of building.

We know many of you have supported Veterans, people who are close to you, and others you will never meet. We thank you for that and pledge to continue our commitment to Veterans as Canteen and Compass Group Salute our Heroes.

Don’t forget to share a photo of your Veteran hero using #Canteen4Heroes. You and your hero could each win a $100 gift card!

For our second year participating in and sponsoring the Charlotte Pride Parade & Festival, we decided to add a little extra oomph to our parade march. Along with over 100 Compass Group associates, we brought along our new “float” to make our presence known.

New this year is our AltogetherGreat Canteen distribution truck. The truck was born out of an idea from a Canteen associate who walked in the parade last year and expressed interest in the company adding a float to the festivities this year. Rather than investing time and resources in decorating a float for one-time use, he suggested making something a little more impactful and a lot longer lasting.

truck

After making its debut in the parade, the truck will continue to share our message of diversity and inclusion with a broader audience throughout the area…and that’s only the beginning. This truck is the first of a fleet that will spread the message across the country.

The 16th Annual Charlotte Pride Parade & Festival attracted over 200,000 people to uptown Charlotte and 3,500 walkers for the largest LGBTQ pride event in the Carolinas.

Thank you to all those who participated! We had representation from Best Vendors, Canteen, Corporate, Eurest, Foodbuy, Flik ISD, Levy Restaurants and TouchPoint.
